Workshop: January 27 — 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
It’s that time of year when indoor activities become more and more popular. That means that it must be time to start thinking about the GHCC Pinewood Derby. This year the derby will be held at GHCC on February 10 at 2:00 pm.
There will also be a workshop to help you get your mini racer project started. The workshop will be held on January 28 starting at 10:00 am and going until 2:00 pm or when the paint dries.
We will have Pinewood Derby kits for sale at the workshop for $5.00 each, and lots of help to get you going. This is a really fun event for all ages so come on out and give it a try. You’ll be amazed at how hard it is to keep up with the kids.
Race Day is February 10 starting at 2:oo pm.
The race is free for the racers and for spectators too and it is so much fun to see how excited the kids get to see their creations come down the track at amazing speeds. Some of the cars will reach scale speeds in excess of 200 MPH. NASCAR has nothing on us. Spectators and racers are treated to lots of races that are too close to call by eye. Thankfully we have electronic eyes in each of the three lanes that tell us the sequence of how the cars cross the finish line.
This year we have introduced a new class for real cars buffs called the “Replica Class” where cars are built to look like real production cars. That should be fun.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to volunteer to help with this event please contact our Race Coordinator, Chuck Strahm: at 360-638-2882 or email email@example.com
